Doyle Innovations, LLC

Dr. Derek Doyle has worked in the space field since 2007. A Masters in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico Tech and a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of New Mexico enabled him to support the Air Force Research Laboratories, Space Vehicles Directorate, as a thrust lead – technical advisor – deputy chief scientist. His research efforts focused on Structural Health Monitoring, Adaptive Materials, Metamaterials, Additive Manufacturing, Augmented Reality, Robotics, Autonomy, and general spacecraft subsystems. As an AFRL technical point of contact and space subject matter expert, he supported reviewing well over 1000 SBIR proposals during his tenure and managed more than 100 that enabled the space ecosystem to mature many technologies through the innovation pipeline up through flight experiments and transition to larger primes. In 2022, Dr. Doyle transitioned to Modern Technology Solutions Incorporated where he now supports the DoD in their space acquisitions. His passion for supporting startups and small businesses and support from his MTSI employer enabled him to start a consulting firm in 2023 called Doyle Innovations, LLC where he can help mentor teams on how to structure their R&D portfolio and appropriately align their pacing goals with funding opportunities to ensure their capability maturation pace does not fall behind the efficiency standards of traditional space technology providers and occasionally will support them in building their Minimal Viable Products needed to push past readiness gates and find transition champions.
